A week in London with my brother

A week ago on Saturday I took an early plane to Warsaw to pick up my baby brother up to spend a week with me in London. It was exciting for both of us as he’s never stayed with me this long without my parents. Let me clarify that my brother is 9 years old, there are 18 years difference between us. 🙂

I wanted this trip to be memorable for him so I have planned an activity a day for us. I was hoping I would be able to take him to the Harry Potter Studio however, it was closed all week so I had to look at other places. But where do you go with a 9 year old without him getting bored?
Well… This is what I came up with and I think he was pretty pleased, I certainly had a great time. It’s nice to be a tourist in a city which has been your home for so many years already.

  1. Shrek’s Adventure

It was an early and rather cold morning for us on Sunday as we made our way to Westminster to Shrek’s Adventure. I was expecting this to be strictly for children, but my boyfriend and I ended up having a great time. It was very entertaining with a bus ride to the land of Far, Far Away and meeting all the principle characters. Apologies for the lack of pictures, but you’re not allowed to take pictures inside. I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you either!

Towards the end there were some interactive games for kids
…and (clearly) for adults 😀

2. Madame Tussaud’s Museum

We started our week off at Madame Tussaud’s Museum as to me this is absolutely a must-see! We were there just before midday and there were no queues whatsoever. This was my second time there and both times there were no queues to get in. While I was walking around kissing the likes of Brad Pitt and George Clooney, my brother was most eager to meet Han Solo and other Star Wars characters and (obviously) the Avengers. As both my brother and I are big fans of Sherlock Holmes I paid an extra £5 each for the Sherlock Holmes Experience, however, I enjoyed it much more the first time I went there. I felt like it was slightly rushed this time.

My boy <3
Yeah…I made him take that picture.
He was so excited!

3. Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N

On Tuesday it was time for the Avenger’s Station at the Excel. And let me tell you… If you are a Marvel fan you will absolutely love this! The exhibit is interactive and there are plenty of costumes, weapons and props. You get to fight enemies like Iron Man and at the end you pick your Avenger of choice and along with other Avenger’s defeat the big boss. We spent about an 1,5h there and then made our way home to have some pizza.

4. Trampoline Park

My parents were due to join us on Thursday, so we ended up going to a trampoline park. My brother has never been to one before so he was super excited but I could not keep up with him. I am definitely getting old! I have never been to ZAPspace before, but as we were there in the morning it was pretty empty apart from a couple of babies with their parents. I thought the place was slightly run down but it was spacious and the variety of trampolines and the death slide made up for it. I absolutely LOVED the fact that they were playing Disney greatest hits in the background. 😉

All in all, I had a great couple of days and I am missing my brother tremendously already! It was nice to re-visit some of my favourite places in London and get to know new ones. If you have any questions about the places we have visited, please let me know in the comments. 🙂

My New Year’s Resolutions

Hello everyone!

I know I’m a bit late to join the party this year, but last weekend I had exams at uni so I’ve been studying for the best part of January. However, my brother is visiting me in London now so I will be off work all week with some time to focus on me. 🙂

I always make New Year’s Resolutions. I see the New Year as a fresh start and an opportunity to change something about yourself or your life.  There have been years where I completely forgot about my resolutions after January the 2nd but I’ve noticed that as I get older I keep getting better at them. I guess it’s got to do with the fact that I’m a little more realistic and a little less hard on myself.

Anyway, this is what I am hoping to improve this year:

  1. Be healthier

I know how cliché this sounds, but I really want to focus on eating less crap and workout regularly (minimum 3 times a week). When I cook at home, I usually eat very healthy, but I tend to be lazy and end up ordering takeaways or buying sandwiches in my lunch break. I would really like to change that as what I eat really affect how I feel, how I look and how much energy I have for the rest of the day.

  1. Visit 3 new places

I love travelling and I want to visit as many places as I can before I start a family. I’m sure travelling starts to be a bit more difficult then. The first trip is planned for February, not long left now! Can’t tell you where I’m going yet as I’m trying to surprise someone. Shhh! 🙂

  1. Film more and take more pictures

I know how weird this sounds, but you it’s so true in my case. I’ve always hated pictures and videos because taking them makes me feel insecure and uncomfortable. However, there is nothing better than looking back on old videos and pictures and reminiscing about all the special adventures, places and moments. Especially the videos so I will try to do a bit more of that.

  1. Post more regularly on the blog

Given that I talk a lot (really, a lot) then this is probably the best way forward for me. I’m sure my boyfriend, close friends and family members will be pleased that I will have someone else to talk to. They get to rest and not listen to my chit chat when I type. 😀 Also, it’s also a nice way to share what I do and where I am with my friends back in Poland or those scattered across the world.

5. Do something new

I always like to try to do something different and new each year. You know what they say.. ‘It’s better to regret what you have done than what you haven’t.’ And I don’t like the idea of never even attempting to do something I’ve always wanted to do. Sooo…this year I have decided to learn a new dance – I have signed up for belly dancing. I start next week and I’m super excited! I may hate it or love it, who knows !

  1. Last but not least, read more books

I have been pretty good with that in the beginning of last year, but as the year went by I’ve got worse and worse. Well, this is no more! Not in 2019! I need to put my phone down more when I’m at home and read before bed more often. I blame Netflix and all their amazing series (Have you seen ‘You’?! I mean.. It’s so good and addictive?!) for this, but I will try to be better. Please feel free to recommend good books you’ve recently read. I am really into all the books about bettering your life, yourself or staying motivated at the moment.

Well… Let’s see how many of these actually stick this year! I will update you in a couple of months and tell you how I’m doing.

Is there something you’ve been wanting to do/change in 2019? Let me know! 🙂

Hugs,

K.

Kensington Gardens

Hello everyone,

There are theee weekends where you have nothing big planned and you just want to enjoy a lazy morning at home and watch movies all day. This was one of these weekend but I’m also the type of person who always wants to do something, even if it’s going out for a walk so I don’t feel like I’ve wasted the day. I never regret that in London because I always end up discovering a street, a coffee shop, a park or a restaurant that I wouldn’t have come across otherwise.

Recently we have ended up in Kensington Gardens and it’s crazy to say that I have never been there before. I lived in west London for 3 years but I had Holland Park round the corner so it was always my go to park. It was actually a bit of a tradition for me and my best friend to grab a coffee and then walk around the park. Once we got tired we would sit on our favourite bench and talk for hours- it was always the same bench.

Anyway, I could not be happier that we ended up in Kensington Gardens – it was absolutely magical! We were quite lucky with the weather because although it was quite chilly the sky was clear blue. And the best part of all – animals! There were beautiful green parrots (that I spent way too much time with), swans, ducks and other birds.

Kensington Park looks like the perfect place for running, walking and I can’t wait to be back in the summer for a picnic. I thought it was stunning now, I’m sure it’s even more beautiful when the flowers and plants are blooming. Regrettably, be didn’t have a chance to visit the Kensington Palace so it’s just another excuse to go back! 🙂

In case you were wondering… Yes, I am Snow White.
Nope, wasn’t a fan of the pigeons. Sorry guys!

Views

Hiya,

I have recently moved in to a new apartment and I love it deeply! I feel sooo, so happy in my new place. Can you imagine that I have been sharing a flat with people ever since I moved to London 4 years ago? It feels so good to finally have my own kitchen, my own bathroom, my own sofa and all the things in the flat where I want them to be. After sharing the communal areas with people for so many years you appreciate the silliest things like walking around naked without scarring anyone for life or waking up, going to the living room and staring at the wall trying to wake up without people thinking you’re a weirdo. Or am I? hahah

One of the things that really attracted me to the flat is the massive terrace. You don’t really get a huge amount of outside space in London so our terrace is a real treat. I can’t wait for spring to invite our friends over to do barbecues or just sit outside in the evenings with a glass of rose. Not to mention the views, I’m completely in love with the views from there… I rush home from work every day just to watch the sunset. I don’t think I will ever get used to the view.

What’s your favourite thing about your home?

Oxford

Hello,

London is beautiful and I absolutely love this city but whenever I get a chance I like to escape the city rush and explore other beautiful places England has to offer.

This doesn’t happen very often as recently I have been working quite a bit on Saturdays. If I am working on a Saturday then I like to use my Sunday just to relax, do a few things at home and simply be lazy. However, I will not be working for the next three Saturdays so watch this space – who knows where I’ll be going to next!

This weekend we have decided to go to Oxford which is just one hour outside of London. My boyfriend has been there before and told me beforehand that I will fall in love with it and he was right. The city is jaw-dropping gorgeous! I could stroll around the beautiful streets for hours, there’s something to discover and admire round every corner.

One thing that had to happen whilst we were in Oxford was the Harry Potter tour. I am the biggest Potterhead and it was so exciting to visit the filming locations from the movies. I took as many pictures as I could – apologies for the quality of some, I am not the best photographer but I did my best!

This is the library where Hermione told Ron and Harry about who Nicholas Flamel was. And most of the Hogwarts library scenes were shot here. Unfortunately we couldn’t go inside as you need to be a student to access it.

Remember the room where Professor McGonagall was teaching the Gryffindors how to dance? It was shot here! They also used the room above as Hospital Wing.

This is where Mad-Eye Moody turned Malfoy into a ferret before McGonagall told him off.

After the tour we walked a bit more around the city and finally went to see the Christ Church’s Cathedral and the dining hall which were absolutely spectacular.

This dining hall and the paintings were JK Rowling’s inspiration for the Great Hall at Hogwarts.

After all this walking we felt a little peckish so we stopped for a quick lunch and cocktails at a Thai place. We didn’t do any research on the restaurant and although it satisfied our hunger, I don’t think I’d go back there. We enjoyed the food but it wasn’t the best thai place I’ve been to.

Rested and fed we have decided to make our way back to London as it started raining as we walked out of the restaurant. All too soon in my opinion but I promise I will be back! 🙂
